To ensure a common and focused approach to training users in Q-Pulse, Yaskawa Electric UK Ltd have taken up an online training service from Gael Ltd. The Gael Academy provides on-demand access to a variety of web-based courses – including more than 130 Q-Pulse courses – which can reduce the time and effort spent in training users.

Yaskawa is the world’s largest drives manufacturer, and their production complex in Cumbernauld, Scotland produces a variety of electrical products specifically tailored to meet the needs of the European and UK markets, including AC inverters, and servo amplifiers.

"Within Yaskawa, the Gael Academy has been arranged with all users entered into the system and with their training plans prescribed by our Q-Pulse administrator," explains Bryan Carr, Quality Manager at Yaskawa Electric UK Ltd. We operate an open learning policy at Yaskawa, which means staff can fit their training plan into their work schedule. However, to ensure we reap the benefits, the system administrator monitors and reports training progress.

"This ensures a common and focused approach that is based on the administrator understanding the needs of our users. If we were to rely on users or managers defining their own training then we might begin to see inconsistencies."

While not replacing the need for full implementation training, the Academy is recommended for users who don’t require the in-depth knowledge given in implementation courses, as well as ‘top-up’ training for users who have already attended Q-Pulse courses.

Bryan added: "The courses within the Academy cover most of the relevant areas that are in frequent use at Yaskawa. The courses are clear, descriptive and concise, which ensures our staff understand the activity without spending excessive time away from their work.

"The course content has been well-designed and ensures accurate demonstration and description, which helps the trainee to understand the activities as well as to see this in practice. The other great aspect of the Academy is that training courses can be taken and repeated as often as required.

"The Academy has improved the use of Q Pulse in Yaskawa to the point where our user licences are now more than fully utilised. The Academy has also allowed us to lay some myths to rest about the complexity of the software, and our users now understand the simplicity and effectiveness of Q Pulse.
