Q-Pulse, developed by Gael Ltd, was chosen by the Medical Microbiology and Infection Control Department at the Victoria Hospital in Fife, Scotland, to manage and streamline their quality processes, effectively making them a paperless office.
To help staff fully utilise the solution, Mrs Olga Greenan, Service Manager, turned to Gael Academy, Gael’s online learning resource, to help with their Q-Pulse roll out.
Through using the Academy, NHS Fife staff strengthened overall quality management within the Medical Microbiology and Infection Control department, making it easier to achieve compliance with industry standards and successfully pass external departmental audits.
Dr Mairiead MacLennan, the department’s Quality and Training Manager, added: “On recently joining the department I was aware of Q-Pulse but had never used it; I immediately gained access to Gael Academy in a bid to familiarise myself with the Q-Pulse solution. This was key for me in that the Academy assisted enormously in building up my Q-Pulse knowledge.
“On a personal note – as a recently appointed Quality and Training Manager and a new user of Q-Pulse – I have found the training courses invaluable.
"I have been able to self-manage my training, plan the modules I require to take in line with the operational needs of the department, repeat courses as required, support and assist the staff and use the courses within my own training delivery around staff training needs.
“Staff here have since been working through all of the training courses to gain a greater understanding of Q-Pulse. We felt that the ability to watch a short video course then complete a quick quiz on how to record a non-conformance was much easier than having a hard copy of a document and trying to read it while conducting the task. The courses can be accessed over and over again so staff can fit in training or simply refresh their memory during short time slots they have available. Academy also gives staff the ability to build their own training plans and control their personal development plans (PDPs) for the year ahead.”
Dr MacLennan added: “We are by no means the finished product, but we have strong foundations in place due to Gael Academy, which will be key in supporting our staff and future system development plans.”
