Scottish-based distillers Glen Turner Company Ltd required an efficient and cost effective QMS solution to help them comply with the BRC Global Food Safety Standard.

The Bathgate-based plant, a subsidiary of French spirits company COFEPP – producers of the Label 5 and Sir Edwards whisky brands – recognised they needed better control of their business documents and non-conformances.

Q-Pulse, developed by Gael Ltd, was chosen to help them effectively achieve this, paving the way to achieving BRC compliance.

Ian Robertson, Compliance Advisor at Glen Turner Company Ltd, said: “Our control of documents in the business was inadequate and we needed a much more structured approach to that and to our management of non-conformances. I was aware of Q-Pulse and the benefits it could bring from previous employers and actually used it for 18 months during one role. I felt it was the exact solution we required to meet our compliance demands.

“We use all the Q-Pulse modules but the critical ones are Document, Non-Conformance and Audit, each module has played a significant part in transforming the way we managed our QMS. We can easily track and review documents, flag up any non-conformances and carry out all tasks associated with auditing through the Audit module. We’ve seen a huge difference in how we control our QMS. It is so much more streamlined and has made our quality processes so much easier to keep on top of.”

Glen Turner Company Ltd decided to implement Q-Pulse to make it easier to comply with BRC regulations, a prominent standard in the food and drink industry. Ian said: “Meeting the BRC regulations was an important objective for Glen Turner. As we strove to achieve compliance with the standard, Q-Pulse helped reduce a lot of the time we were spending trying to do that by helping us keep on top of our QMS processes. The software has been excellent, for example, in our document control and we have seen a vast improvement also in that department.”

And Ian added: “Q-Pulse has been instrumental throughout the business and has made a huge difference. The solution has also been beneficial in the control of Bills of Materials and we will use it as a sound platform to develop our systems for Health and Safety and Environmental accreditation over the next couple of years.
