systems using APIs
A Finnish airline is further improving the management of aviation safety by integrating Q-Pulse with other software systems.
With headquarters in Helsinki, Blue1 is part of the SAS Group. Based at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, Blue1 operates on both domestic routes within Finland and on routes to Scandinavia and the rest of Europe.
As long-term users of Q-Pulse from Gael Ltd, management at Blue1 were looking for ways in which the compliance management solution could further streamline their safety management system (SMS).
The introduction of Q-Pulse web service APIs from Gael provided the airline with a solution by allowing its partners to submit occurrence reports directly into their SMS through their extranet.
"Our aim was two-fold," explains Fredrik Johansson, IT Systems Manager at Blue1. "We wanted to establish electronic reports as part of our streamlining of occurrence reporting, and we needed any such reports to be available to our partners over the extranet."
At Blue1, web service APIs have enabled Q-Pulse to integrate seamlessly with their extranet. This has helped to achieve their aim of paperless reporting, both by eliminating paper-based reports and by ensuring that all occurrence reports could be routed directly into Q-Pulse from their extranet.
"Allowing our external partners access to our Q-Pulse web server was not a viable option for us, and so web service APIs have provided an elegant solution in enabling access to our SMS for our partners. Additionally, users need no knowledge of Q-Pulse as the report is integrated into our extranet site.
"By enabling partners and users to report occurrences at the point of need," concludes Fredrik, "Q-Pulse web service APIs have increased the effectiveness of our reporting process, with the ultimate aim of improving how safety is managed throughout Blue1."
