Working with Gael we were the first regulator in the world to implement such a robust electronic auditing platform and the project has been a huge success. It has resulted in a better relationship with our stakeholders, improved knowledge sharing and, ultimately, safer skies above the UAE

High-flying Scottish company, Gael Ltd, in conjunction with the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), have set a new global standard for aircraft safety regulators by using an iPad based system to help drive improvements in Aviation safety.

The programme uses Gael’s cutting edge Q-Pulse compliance management application to create a mobile offline audit capability, with the new paperless system reducing duplication of effort; allowing faster and more accurate reporting and making the audit process more effective and efficient.

East Kilbride based Gael already provide software solutions to assist organisations demonstrate effective compliance to a wide range of international quality, risk and safety management standards to auditors, regulators, assessment bodies and customers. Core to Gael’s systems are underlying processes designed to encourage organisations to do the "right things right".

Gael's collaboration with the GCAA, based in the United Arab Emirates, uses iPads to regulate the safety performance of almost 800 operators and 600 registered aircraft operating in the UAE airspace, which is recognised as one of the fastest growing Aviation marketplaces in the world.

The new system, which is one of the highlights of this week's Dubai air show, is set to revolutionise the way Quality and Safety Audits are conducted, eliminating bureaucracy and enabling focus on the more critical aspects of their role despite the growth in workload as the marketplace expands.

Speaking from the Dubai air show, Gael Chief Executive Officer, Ashley Marron, said: "Using iPads was a natural extension to the e-Auditing solution that we had previously deployed at the GCAA. The original solution was delivered using Q-Pulse and for the past two years this has proven invaluable in terms of reduction in administration time, paperwork and bureaucracy, whilst allowing the airlines direct access to their outstanding actions. The gains in efficiency and the increased visibility across all operators ultimately contribute to safer skies.

"With the iPad, the time taken to carry out an audit is radically reduced as the process becomes available at point of need and is made more simple, more accurate and more effective. The iPad makes it easy to capture objective evidence using its camera, cutting down on lengthy written reports."

He added: "Gael's revolutionary Q-Pulse audit system was already world leading. By combining it with the iPad we have made it even better and right now we are seeing only the beginning of the benefits to Aviation operators who will soon be using this system in pre-flight checklists and in providing cabin crew with access to operational, safety and emergency procedures. When all this data is fed back into Q-Pulse, examples of best practice or areas requiring improvement can be quickly identified.”

The Director of Aviation Safety with the GCAA, Ismaeil Mohammed Al Balooshi, said: "Working with Gael we were the first regulator in the world to implement such a robust electronic auditing platform and the project has been a huge success. It has resulted in a better relationship with our stakeholders, improved knowledge sharing and, ultimately, safer skies above the UAE."

The new system pioneered by the East Kilbride based company now looks set to revolutionise and improve the safety procedures of airline companies across the world.

The benefits of the technology are transferable to Gael’s other key sectors including Healthcare, Life Sciences and the Manufacturing Supply Chain. The Oil and Gas sector will also soon be benefiting from a solution designed and proven to manage one of the most regulated industries in the world.
